Mother (Nature) Knows Best

If you’re having a hard time deciding on a color palette for the interior or exterior of your home, turn to Mother Nature for inspiration.

Take a walk through the produce section of the grocery store. There are tons of colors there. Visit a florist, a floral website or take a hike on your favorite trail or through a garden park. The colors are endless, and you can see what naturally occurs together and what gardening experts pair. No color is really off limits. It’s just a matter of figuring out how to utilize it best.

Think about the colors you tend to gravitate towards, as well as the places you love most. If you want the serenity of blues, consider the color palettes offered at the beach. You have light sand, blue water of many shades, blue skies, white clouds, varied shells, corals and creatures. Mix and match these colors for an all blue effort or with pops of color that play beautifully together.

Following cues from nature will ensure you have a color scheme that works throughout the seasons. You will also find many classic colors that will stand the test of time. If you’re a bit nervous to use bold colors on the walls, consider a neutral wall color paired with some beautiful pops of color in pillows, artwork, trinkets and furniture.

If you know you love green, or purple or orange, that’s a great place to start. Where in nature are you most likely to see that color? How do the shades vary, and what other colors naturally appear nearby? This article from Better Homes & Gardens offers quite a few color palettes that take their inspiration from nature. It’s a great place to get your own creative inspiration started.
