5 Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Bathroom Paint Work in Arlington, VA

In the course of considering how you may wish to update the look of your home, it’s entirely possible that you will want to update the look of your bathroom.

One important thing to bear in mind when you’re looking at painting your bathroom is that there are certain mistakes that you can easily make that if not avoided can throw the entire project off schedule, cause it to cost more, and possibly make you need to start over from the beginning — certainly not something you’d want to happen.

With that being the case, let’s now look at and consider five mistakes that can ruin your bathroom paintwork in Arlington, VA

1. Not Checking For Mold And Mildew

One thing that you’re going to want to make sure to do when you’re looking to paint your bathroom is to make sure that you check for mold and mildew before you start.

The reason that this is the case is that you should not try to paint over mold or mildew — it is rather unpleasant to say the least and given how very unhealthy mold and mildew are for you and your house, it’s best to get rid of it entirely.

2. Painting Without Any Ventilation

Even when you are doing what could be the best thing and using a kind of paint that has absolutely no strong emissions, you’re still going to want to paint in an area that is well ventilated.

If you think about your bathroom as being a sort of a tank in which you are standing, if you don’t have any windows or doors open the strong smell from the paint will have nowhere to go and it will make for a bad painting environment.

The best thing you can do is to open any windows you can and to leave the door open if you can to create a sort of pathway for air to flow.

3. Leaving The Toilet Tank

Another thing you’re going to want to avoid is having things in the way when you’re painting any interior room, and in terms of obstacles, there are few that are quite like a toilet tank.

When you have the toilet tank in the way, it’s not impossible to paint behind the toilet but it is certainly significantly more difficult.

Though removing the tank can be a bit difficult, it’s well worth it when you don’t have to spend so much time painting in the area where it had been resting.

4. Not Using Primer First

In the painting of your bathroom, you are going to need to make sure to apply a coat of primer before you apply the coat or two of paint to the walls.

This is significant because you want your paint to go on a surface that is smooth and one that will allow it to adhere well, and a well primed wall will fulfill both of these.

It can be seen that when you have paint on a wall with primer, it tends to stay on longer than paint on a wall that has no primer.

5. Using The Wrong Kind Of Paint

Lastly, you’re going to want to make sure that you use the kind of paint that is mildew and mold resistant as well as generally resistant to moisture.

The reason that this is the case is that when you’re working with a bathroom, you’re looking at a room that tends to see a lot more moisture in the air — and if you protect against it, you will see fewer issues with mold and the like.
