5 Tricks To Painting Bathroom Cabinets in McLean, VA

Having a bathroom is an important and necessary part of homeownership, whether we live in an apartment building or a full house — and one nice thing when you have a sufficiently large bathroom is having bathroom cabinets.

It’s a good idea to update the look of your cabinets periodically, especially as our cabinets begin to look worn — did you know that the money you would spend on replacing your cabinets is substantially greater than how much you would spend on just making them look new again by painting them?

Of course, painting can be an inherently tricky thing — but with just a bit of good advice on your side, you will master updating the look of your bathroom cabinets.

Let’s now look at five tricks to painting bathroom cabinets in McLean, VA

1. Making A Plan

One of the most important things you should do before you set off on any painting project, even one as seemingly simple as one in which you’ll be painting your bathroom cabinets, is to make a plan for it.

This is significant because you have to think about when you are going to be taking each step of the painting project, as well as what materials you will need (in addition to figuring out how much paint you will need.)

The matter of knowing how much paint you will need is more or less estimated based on how many square feet you will have to paint — and by doing this you won’t end up buying too much or too little paint.

2. Sanding Before You Paint

In trying to paint your bathroom cabinets you’re going to want to make sure that the surface that you’re looking to paint is smooth — rough surfaces aren’t so great when it comes to painting, after all.

One way that you can do this is to sand the surface before painting — and then of course removing the sanding dust from the surface and making sure that you fully get it all (because, after all, you don’t want sanding dust in your paint!)

3. Using A Mold And Mildew Resistant Paint

There are of course quite a lot of paints from which you will be able to choose in terms of interior paints that would in theory work in painting your bathroom cabinets.

The best bet that you have, however, is to go with a paint that is resistant to mold and mildew — as much time as your bathroom cabinets are spending in an environment that is quite a bit on the more humid side (the perfect environment in which to encourage the growth of said mold and mildew) you want to fight off them with as many possible ways as you have.

Mold and mildew-resistant paints are one good way to do this.

4. Letting All Surfaces Dry

One of the big things that you are going to have to deal with when you’re painting your bathroom cabinets is the time that you will have to spend waiting for surfaces to dry.

Though you might think that you can just skip some of the waiting periods and just go right back to the next step in the painting process, this is not the case and can in fact ruin a perfectly good painting job.

Painting after you have cleaned your surfaces (and not allowing them to dry) leads to numerous painting problems — though it’s not fun to watch paint dry you still have to let the time pass without interruption!

5. Appropriately Set Aside Hardware

Lastly, when you are looking to paint your bathroom cabinets you should put the hardware aside in an appropriate manner — not just taking them off and putting them wherever.

You may want to get a small plastic tub for them so that you don’t lose them, for example.
