5 Dining Room Painting Mistakes To Avoid in Arlington, VA
In your home there are few rooms that are quite like the dining room – it’s really meant for just about one purpose (enjoying food in a more formal setting as it were — but that’s not the only thing you can do in the room, naturally.
As you may want to make the room look nicer, it’s entirely possible that you will want to take the time to paint the room — and so long as you don’t make any significant blunders, you will make out with a better-looking dining room overall that doesn’t cost you too much or take too long to do.
Let’s now look at five dining room painting mistakes to avoid in Arlington, VA.
1. Using The Wrong Kind Of Paint
One mistake that people make when they’re painting their dining room is to use the absolutely wrong kind of paint for the paintwork that needs to be done.
This is not limited to just the fact that you’re going to be using interior paint and not exterior paint (the difference between these is quite extreme) but also the fact that you are going to want to make use of a paint that has a good sheen for the room in which you are painting, the dining room.
With glossier paint, you can more easily clean the walls, and seeing the quantity of food that comes into the room, you would do well to make use of such paint.
2. Thinking You Can Only Use One Color
If you are painting your dining room, you may well come to think that you are going to be limited to only one color, but this doesn’t have to be the case.
Indeed, there is always the possibility of using more than one color, and it’s a good idea to bear in mind a couple of things when doing so.
The first is that the colors should look good together, which of course makes sense because you don’t want to put together colors that look bad in the same area.
The second is that they don’t have to be on the same wall — complementary colors can actually be on different walls and still look nice in the room.
3. Not Wearing Protective Clothing
An important part of painting your dining room is making sure that you are well protected from the work that you’re going to be doing.
Specifically, you have to make sure that you are well protected in terms of the dust that is going to be found in the air — you’re going to need to wear a face mask so you don’t breathe it in and protective goggles so that you don’t possibly get anything in or near to your eyes.
It would also be a good idea to wear long-sleeved clothing, as it’s a lot easier than trying to remove the paint from your skin.
4. Painting Without A Plan
In any painting project, it’s good to start by having a good plan which will guide you when you are painting the walls of your dining room.
This will include things such as knowing well how much space you have to paint — this will help guide you in determining how much paint to purchase as well as making a schedule for painting.
Without having any kind of plan, you’re going to possibly get not enough paint (or too much, which is its own problem) and this will make for a costlier painting project.
5. Not Letting Surfaces Dry
When you are working with surfaces, you need to make sure that they are fully dry before you make any progress in painting.
If you are painting and you apply paint to a wet surface (or even primer) you will find that at some point later the paintwork will not look right, and that will be because you didn’t wait for a dry surface.
